Daft Punk collaborator, the godfather of UK Garage, and grammy winning producer, Todd Edwards, returns to The Patron Saint Friday, October 8th w/ support from John Larner and Kiefer Ian.
House Legend and Grammy award winner Todd Edwards has had a stellar musical career spanning over 25 years. Very early on in his career Todd developed a unique way of utilising sampling, particularly vocals and would often use this technique in place of a musical instrument in his productions. This hypnotic collage of cut-up samples over swung beats and lively disco-flavoured baselines helped set him apart from many of his peers and resulted in him being credited as one of the godfathers of UK Garage, being referred to as Todd ‘The God’ Edwards amongst fans. A succession of releases followed over the years cementing the admiration fans and producers alike have for Todd. In addition to his own legendary productions, Todd has remixed artists like Phoenix, Wiley, Justice, Matthew Dear, Hot Chip, Wilkinson, Klaxons, Jess Glynne & Jax Jones, St. Germain, Mella Dee, MJ Cole, Example, Majestic, Oliver Heldens & countless others. Perhaps best known though for his collaborations with Daft Punk, on the album Discovery he co-produced and performed vocals on the song "Face to Face”. His work on the track "Fragments of Time” from the album Random Access Memories, (where he again provided vocals) led to him earning a Grammy award for album of the year.
Respected and idolised by fans and peers worldwide, Todd’s discography is a staggering list of productions which saw 140+ records reissued by Defected Records in 2021. Todd has a strong bond with Defected, in 2019 he made his debut on the label with “You’re Sorry”, which charted at #1 on the Billboard Dance Chart. The follow up single ‘Deeper’ a collaboration with Sinden soon followed to great success, yielding a remix from Gorgon City. Continuing on the momentum built, Todd went on to collaborate with the legendary Pete Tong & The Heritage Orchestra by providing vocals to ‘Go Crazy’ the lead single off of the album ‘Chilled Classics’. 2020 was one of his busiest in the studio, providing vocals for Groove Armada on the track ‘Lover 4 Now’ which became the 2nd single off the album ‘Edge Of The Horizon’. He provided vocals for Tchami on the track ‘Damaged Hearts’ which became the closing track off his album ‘Year Zero’. While also providing vocals and production work on Poolside’s ‘Getting Here from There’ as well as a number of other collaborations. He even found time to release one of his own tracks ‘Inspire Me’ on DJ EZ new label NuVolve Music. In 2021 Todd released ‘The Chant’ through Undisputed Music, premiering on Annie Mac Friday Night Radio 1 Show it went on to be named ‘Hottest Record in The World’. Receiving massive amounts of airplay across Annie’s Friday Night & Weekday shows, as well as support across the board from Pete Tong, Dance Anthems on Radio 1, The blessed Madonna on BBC 6 Music, Majestic, DJ Q & Gorgon City on Kiss FM & being playlisted on Capital Dance with Mistajam & on Rinse FM. Follow up single ‘My Angel’ released through Defected Records affiliated label D4 Dance is receiving similar praise with its pop hook vocals provided by London based act Electric Enemy fitting perfectly over Todd’s production style. This though is just the beginning, so look out for much more from this Icon.
